Quetta: The authorities concerned on Sunday launched several solar-powered tube wells in a bid to facilitate the farmers facing water issues in the city, a news source reported. National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri and Deputy Chief of Mission at Chinese Embassy Lijian Zhao were also present at the occasion.

Zhao, during his interaction with the reporters, said that China was willing to provide all possible assistance to the Balochsitan government for initiating development projects all across the province.
Previously, the deputy speaker had requested the Chinese officials to assist the provincial government on this front. On Saturday, he had inaugurated three similar projects; including one solar-powered tube well facility in Sara Curgai and another near Kasi graveyard.

According to the officials, these initiatives aim to put an end to the monopoly of the ‘tanker mafia’ operating in various parts of the province. Maintained by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), approximately 450 tankers will ensure an interrupted eight-hour supply of water on a daily basis.
