Lahore: After water became available, the first unit of Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project has started power generation, according to a news source. The unit is under a reliability test run currently.
It has been providing 335 MW of electricity to the national grid so far, but this will be gradually increased to the maximum capacity of 470 MW. The first unit was completed in April, but water was not available, so it couldn’t reach its full capacity.
Another unit of the extension has also been put into wet commissioning three days ago. This reliability test run for that unit will be conducted in the first week of next month. Tarbela 4th Extension project is expected to produce a total of 1,410 MW.
