Karachi: Karachi has officially initiated the first phase of its ambitious Safe City Project, installing 25 surveillance cameras across five strategic locations to bolster security, as reported on September 23.
As per details, managed by the Sindh Safe Cities Authority, the live feeds from these cameras will be monitored at the Central Police Office (CPO) Command and Control Centre. Asif Ijaz Sheikh Director General of the Sindh Safe Cities Authority reported that 43 poles have already been set up throughout the city. This surveillance system is designed to aid law enforcement in curbing crime and enhancing public safety.
The live footage will be displayed in real-time at the S4 Control Room within the CPO, enabling police to swiftly monitor suspicious activities and respond effectively. Valued at over PKR. 3 billion, the Safe City Project was launched earlier this year by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar.
He emphasised that this initiative aims to transform Karachi into one of the safest cities in Pakistan. The project is structured in two phases, with the first phase expected to conclude within the next 12 months. The Sindh government anticipates that this project will lead to a significant reduction in crime rates across the city. Following the completion of phase one, plans are in place to expand the surveillance system to other cities within Sindh.
