Gilgit: The first national ice sports festival has started in the village of Ghulkin in Upper Hunza, according to news published on Thursday (January 20). Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Winter Sports Association President Amjad Wali disclosed that the festival will continue till January 23.

The event is organised by Pakistan Winter Sports Association in collaboration with Ghulkin Winter Club. According to the details shared, the festival features several competitions including ice hockey, ice polo, ice football, and ice skating. A total of 21 teams participated in the festival, which includes 5 girl teams.

Moreover, Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Wendy Gilmour was the chief guest and attended the inaugural ceremony of the ice sports festival. The high commissioner was the referee in a match played between girl teams – Altit Scarf and Chipurson Hunza. Senior Minister Obaidullah Baig, social and political activists, and district administration officials also attended the event. At the occasion, the elders performed the traditional dance on music and national anthems were also played.
