Lahore: The Punjab government has introduced an industrial policy ‘for the first time in the history of the province’, a news source quoted Punjab Information and Culture Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal as saying. He expressed his views on the matter during a press briefing held on Wednesday.

He said that the incumbent government, during its first year in power, had established four technical universities in the province. He added that the executive had launched several other initiatives; including special economic zones (SEZs), small industry and cottage industry development projects that would bring about an industrial revolution.
The minister stated that an SEZ being developed on 20,000 acres of land in Muzaffargarh and Layyah would prove to be a game-changer for the province.

Moreover, he said that the provincial government didn’t procure any additional loans this year, and even succeeded to repay some of the debts. He lauded CM Buzdar’s strict adherence to the government’s austerity policy; saying that the expenses of the Chief Minister’s Office have been reduced by 60% as compared to the expenses incurred during the previous government’s tenure.
