Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has invited expressions of interest (EOI) from qualified contractors for the development of the ‘Firdous Market Underpass’ in the city, a news source reported. To this effect, companies registered under the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC)’s ‘C-1’ category have been called to submit their applications by March 2.

The 540-metre long underpass is expected to connect Firdous Market and the Centre Point following its completion. The LDA had proposed the construction of related infrastructure on this signal years ago, but the project plan was finalised in January this year.
To this effect, the development authority (on January 13) contracted the services of the National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK) to prepare the project design.

As per the design, the Punjab government will acquire 10 kanals of land for the project. To facilitate this measure, the provincial executive recently sanctioned PKR 200 million.
The project is expected to be completed at a cost of PKR 700 million. The commute facility will be constructed on both sides of Lahore’s Ali Zaib Road.
