Islamabad: Finland is willing to collaborate with the Pakistani government with respect to the ‘10-Billion Tree Tsunami’ programme, according to Finnish Ambassador Harri Kamarainen and Under-Secretary Annie Sappi Lahinen.

The Finnish representative expressed their views on the matter during a meeting with Federal Minister for Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam in Islamabad on Thursday.
The envoy lauded the plantation drive as a revolutionary measure which would have a positive impact on the environment. To facilitate this project, Finland will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement with Pakistan.

The two countries will also collaborate on several plantation projects, promote scientific research, and provide assistance to female Pakistani students studying forestry in universities in Finland.
In response, Minister Aslam appreciated the visiting dignitaries for their support. He was of the view that by working together, the two countries could prevent further environmental degradation.

He added that the incumbent government was already working on measures to expand Pakistan’s forest cover.
