Islamabad: The government has announced an approximate 1500% increase in fines charged against the non-compliance of traffic laws on national highways and motorways across the country, according to news sources.
As per the official notification, this increase in fine was announced after consultations with the motorway police, which were followed by an amendment to the 12th Schedule of the National Highways Safety Ordinance 2000.

Some of the fine revisions are as follows:
- The fines for exceeding the speed limit by less than 40 kilometres per hour have been increased to PKR 1,500 for motorcyclists, PKR 2,500 for cars, PKR 10,000 for public service vehicles and PKR 5,000 for heavy traffic vehicles.
- The fines for driving an unregistered vehicle have been increased to PKR 2,000 for motorcyclists, light traffic vehicles and cars; PKR 5,000 for public service vehicles; and PKR 5,000 for heavy traffic vehicles.
- The fine for driving on the wrong side of the road has been increased from PKR 500 to PKR 2,500.
- The fine for disobeying a stop sign has been increased from PKR 3,000 to PKR 5,000.
- The fine for improper crossing of a railway track has been increased to PKR 1,000, with a further fine of PKR 1,000 for following too closely or cutting in too sharply.

- The fines for vehicles emitting smoke, vapours, sparks, grit, ashes or oily substances have been set at PKR 1,250 for cars and light traffic vehicles, and PKR 3,000 for public service vehicles and heavy traffic vehicles.
- Drivers failing to yield right of way to other vehicles will be punished with a PKR 1,000 fine, while drivers that interfere with emergency vehicles will be charged PKR 5,000.
