Lahore: Chief Secretary (CS) Punjab Yousaf Naseem Khokhar has ordered concerned authorities to finalise the draft law to ban the usage of polythene bags within a week, a news source reported. The order was given as the CS was reviewing the proposed bill while chairing a meeting at his office on Monday.

Khokhar stated that reducing pollution, and preserving the environment, was the government’s priority. Eliminating polythene bags was an important step in this direction. He emphasised the need for collective efforts in the implementation of steps like these.

The Secretary Environment Department of Punjab informed the meeting that the Lahore High Court had received two petitions calling for a ban on the usage of plastic bags, similar to the one submitted in Islamabad. Due to this reason, the court had ordered that a draft law be formulated after consultation with stakeholders.
