The 820-kilometre cable laid between Khunjerab and Rawalpindi was part of the project’s first phase — with a Chinese company having also conducted a successful test of the lines. Last week, a deal regarding the Kohala and Azad Pattan power projects had also been signed between the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Chinese companies under the CPEC initiative. Meetings were also held to discuss, in detail, the execution of these projects. At the time, Bajwa had announced that 8,000 jobs would be created and a total of 1800MW of electricity would be generated through the development of these projects.
