Gujranwala: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has formally started an investigation against the developers of 98 housing schemes, reported a news source. The joint investigation team formed on the orders of the Supreme Court recommended the agency for launching this investigation.
The societies under investigation also include 25 cooperative housing scheme. A team comprising 10 assistant directors of Anti-Corruption Circle will carry out the investigation. Anti-Corruption Circle deputy director will head this team.

The team has received the instructions to complete the investigation by April 15, 2019.
Back in the start of 2018, Supreme Court of Pakistan took notice of irregularities reported in private housing schemes in Punjab. The apex court ordered a forensic audit.
FIA started to conduct audit of private housing by hiring private auditors. The court later mater a JIT comprising officers of National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Anti-Corruption Department and FIA. The JIT conducted a joint forensic audit of private housing schemes.

At present, Anti-Corruption Department and NAB investigate cases against eight housing schemes each.
