Lahore: Punjab Senior Minister Aleem Khan has said that charges will imposed for waste collection from houses, shops and markets, a news source reported. He said that the new solid waste management companies will be asked to collect waste and charge respective households to generate funds. This will help reduce the burden on the government.
He said that contractors will collect the fees from homes themselves. Khan said that currently Punjab government was paying PKR 20 billion annually to waste collection companies in some parts of Lahore. He added that a draft municipal bill will be presented next year under which taxes will be levied while keeping in view the model and backward areas.
Previously, Khan had assigned a one-week task to Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) to implement Zero-Waste Policy. The policy required that instead of dumping waste, LWMC will use it to manufacture fertiliser, chipboard, related hardware, and other products.
Talking on reforms, he said that reforms will be introduced in education, health, local government, agriculture, irrigation, forest and wildlife, sports, women development, industries, livestock and other departments.
He added that the new local government system will be introduced soon and that new elected representatives will be empowered administratively as well as financially.
