Islamabad: The federal government is working to launch an affordable housing scheme for low-income citizens, news sources reported on November 15.

The scheme will be launched in collaboration with public-private partnerships and other stakeholders. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Ministry of Housing and Works Secretary Iftikhar Ali Shallwani with the members of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
Shallwani stated during the meeting that the project’s goal would be to deliver affordable and sustainable housing complexes for people around the country. The panel also went through the plans for the forthcoming First International Housing Expo, which is being organised by the housing ministry and will be held from December 8 to 11 at the Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad.

Participants at the meeting noted that the expo would be a significant event for the housing industry and allied companies since it would expose them to the international market. According to the plan, Chinese enterprises will also attend the housing exhibition and demonstrate their inexpensive housing innovations.

It is vital to highlight that Pakistan is experiencing a serious housing shortage, with 1 million new houses needed each year to meet the country’s growing population. The government has developed a number of schemes targeted at delivering low-interest home loans.
