Lahore: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Monday (June 13) confirmed the federal government’s plan to expand Allama Iqbal International Airport, news sources reported. The plan includes the expansion of the airport’s territory as well as the development of additional passenger lounges.

Reportedly, the decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique. The minister said that there is a need to expand the existing airport to address problems related to flight operations and the prevention of bird strikes on aircraft during flight landing and take-off. He also said that there is a need to create separate lounges for international passengers and domestic flights.

Moreover, he also highlighted the need to develop airports to international standards. On the occasion, the members of CAA briefed the minister about the needs and requirements of the flight operations at the airport and the necessary steps needed to address those issues.
