Islamabad: Sindh Governor Imran Ismail recently revealed that the federal government — with Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan at the helm — was keen on developing the islands located off the coast of Karachi, a news source reported on October 9. He added that with an investment of around USD 50 billion, Bundal Island, one of these water-locked land tracts, had the ‘potential to surpass even Dubai’.

The governor made these comments while speaking at a news conference after his meeting with the PM. On the occasion, he said that the centre was looking to sort out the issue of the islands with the Sindh government, and that the premier had directed him to discuss the matter of Bundal Island with the officials of the provincial executives.

Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Haider Zaidi additionally stated that the federal government would bring all the stakeholders on board for the development of a new city on Bundal Island. He also added that the development of these islands would ultimately benefit the people of Sindh.
