Faisalabad: The Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) on Wednesday stated that the authority was taking mandatory steps to digitise the records of approved slums (katchi abadis) in the city’s urban localities, a news source reported.

To this effect, FDA Director General (DG) Muhammad Suhail Khawaja chaired a meeting to review the various administrative and official matters pertaining to the slum areas. He also directed the officials concerned to update the documented records of the slums. He further ordered the katchi abadis department to maintain a close association with the office of the Punjab Director General for Katchi Abadis.

In response, Deputy Director for Katchi Abadis Zafar Iqbal Qadri stated that the FDA was handling a total 82 legal slums. He said that the city had a total of 110 katchi abadis in which 25,356 residents were living. He also briefed the meeting about the history of katchi abadis and how their numbers increased across the past few decades.
