Faisalabad: The Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) recently announced its decision to ban as many as 301 illegal housing schemes in the city — with the move aimed at preventing their developers from selling any additional plots, according to news sources. This decision was prompted by a crackdown against illegal housing societies that was initiated by the FDA on February 27.

The FDA issued letters to the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, and other departments to warn them against supplying services to these illegal housing schemes.
Furthermore, the FDA filed 201 cases against the developers of these societies, and forwarded 158 charge sheets to the senior special magistrate for review.

During the operation, 191 warning notices were sent, 234 structures were demolished, and 278 colonies were sealed. Director General FDA Muhammad Suhail Khawaja said that the authority’s legal cell had been directed to resolve these cases effectively and immediately in civil and session courts. He added that his department would continue following ‘multidimensional steps’ in order to ensure ‘transparency in the housing sector.’
The DG FDA further stated that strict action would be also be taken against residential and commercial property owners that had erected iron railings illegally, which had become a cause for inconvenience for the public at large.
