Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) recently announced that its recorded number of tax filers had surpassed the 900,000 mark, a news source reported. According to the data compiled by the taxation authority, the figures recorded till October 25 stood at 918,207.

In a Twitter post, FBR Chairman Shabbar Zaidi revealed that the number of tax returns recorded on a daily basis had increased by 127% as compared to the last year’s figures. He added that the number of tax returns filed during the same period of the previous year were recorded at 585, 209.
Zaidi explained that the average tax returns filed per day stood at 18,735 during the ongoing financial year. He said that the numbers recorded during the same period last year stood at 8,242.

According to another FBR official, the board (for the current year) has decided to increase the number of tax filers to five million. He said that the taxation authority’s ongoing campaign for expanding the tax net has delivered results in increasing the number of tax filers.
It is pertinent to mention that the last date for FBR tax return submissions is October 31, 2019.
