Islamabad: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Commerce and Textiles has asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to submit a report detailing its proposals with regard to textile industry’s overhaul, a news source reported.

The committee members, during a meeting held on Tuesday, stressed on the urgency for creating a strategy to create a trade surplus and asked the FBR for its input on the matter. The participants said they wanted the taxation agency’s assistance in resolving the issues impeding the textile industry’s growth.
Secretary Commerce and Textile Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera briefed the meeting attendees regarding several important structural changes required for the Pakistani embassies to play their role in the promotion of economic, trade and investment partnerships with other countries. He said that the government was looking to enter new markets in all major regions around the globe.

Sukhera added that the performance of trade officers was being monitored and a couple of officers were asked to return to Pakistan owing to their poor performances. He assured the members that the executive was ensure transparency during the process of appointment of new officers.
