Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed the timely issuance of sales tax refunds, spurred by the recent disbursement of PKR 65 billion to key export sectors.

As per the details, priority for refunds will be accorded to sectors such as engineering, rice, and food products. Inland Revenue Chief Commissioners are tasked with addressing the backlog of deferred sales tax refund claims and preventing further accumulation.

To achieve this, they must ensure that pending claims communicated by the automated system are resolved by June 1. Additionally, future deferred refund claims should be processed within one month of notification by the automated system. The FBR emphasises personal oversight by Chief Commissioners to ensure strict adherence to these directives.
