Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has made a list of 100 influential public figures, including politicians, artists, players, and celebrated individuals from other domains, for sending tax notices – a news source reported.
The action is being taken on the directives of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan. As per reports, all citizens living beyond their means will be brought under the tax net. This measure will serve to create a sense of deterrence – geared for enforcing effective taxation.
Reportedly, the names of several politicians, irrespective of their political affiliations, have been included in the list.
According to the officials concerned, FBR gathered data from various sources to prepare reports on the lifestyle dynamics of these notables. In the process, the board found discrepancies in the accounts of their declared and possessed incomes.
Last week, the PM directed FBR to launch a crackdown against tax evaders. Since recently, the authority has also been sending notices to high net-worth individuals.
So far, the board has sent 6451 notices on the basis of the information available. The data collected relates to rental income, properties, and luxury vehicles.
