Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to investigate over 2,000 high-net-worth individuals in the country – a news source reported.
The board has forwarded a list of these individuals to its regional tax offices. This list comprises businessmen, lawyers, landlords, and several high-profile politicians.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that over 2,000 Pakistanis own assets and properties abroad. These include factories, flats, agricultural land, and companies worth billions of rupees.
However, the individuals in question have paid little to no tax on their held properties and assets. As such, the FBR has directed its regional directorates to recover all such evaded taxes.

Earlier, the board had sought a report on individuals owning expensive properties nationwide. It tasked the departments concerned to prepare a list of the top 15 individuals owning high-end residential and commercial properties.
According to FBR, the cases in question had remained in a stayed condition for more than a year.
