Islamabad: The federal government has decided to gather the family data of large tax evaders to find out the details of the properties owned by them and their families, a news source reported.
According to sources, the government is planning to extend the tax net from 1.5 million people, currently registered in the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) record, to 8 million people.
Majority of the big tax evaders buy properties in the names of their family members, including children and spouses, to avoid taxes. To remedy this, FBR will gather the complete family data of all suspected evaders.
The family data will be obtained from the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA), followed by FBR scrutiny for signs of evasion.
FBR has also begun to survey plazas, homes, and resident projects in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad, Quetta, and Rawalpindi, among other cities. The owners of expensive properties will also be scrutinised for the purpose.
