Karachi: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to reward individuals that help identify tax evaders and the officials who facilitate them, by awarding these whistle-blowers with 20% of all the funds recovered — a news source reported.

The name of the whistle blower will be kept confidential and they will be paid after the recovery of the government authority is successful in recovering the stolen amount. The FBR took this decision in light of the strict tax targets that have been assigned to them by the federal government for this fiscal year.

The FBR has already worked out a mechanism through which the whistle blowers can submit relevant documents and other details supporting their accusations. The board will ensure that their names are kept confidential during and after the completion of this process.

The FBR has been working to take action against tax evaders for quite some time, however corrupt elements can make it easier for individuals to hide their assets. This can lead to huge losses in revenue, which is why the authority has made this recent decision regarding whistle-blowers.
