Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on real-time data exchange in a bid to expand the country’s tax base, according to the news sources.

According to the detail revealed, the agreement is aimed at realising Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s vision of automating the country’s tax collection system. Special Assistant to the PM (SAPM) on Revenue Dr Waqar Masood guided this development under which NARDA would conduct real-time verification of computerized national identity cards (CNICs) and associated details.

The collaboration of NADRA with FBR aims to help improve the tax authority’s service delivery standards and will automate ‘tax refunds prefill data in withholding statements and tax returns’. The initiative will also promote the executive’s ease-of-doing-business programme by saving time spent in regulatory compliance.
