Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has shared the latest figures on the total number of people who had filed their income tax returns by December 6 2019, a news source reported. As per the details communicated, the board has received a total of 1.7 million income tax returns so far in tax year (TY) 2019, while the figures recorded for the same period in TY2018 stood at 1.2 million.

The FBR expects to receive more tax returns by December 15; which is the deadline to file tax returns. The number of tax filers registered during the current TY so far is higher by 0.5 million than the figures recorded in TY2018. In TY2018, the FBR received additional tax revenue of PKR 5 billion by registering 0.6 million new tax filers (in comparison with that recorded in TY 2017).

As per the stats shared in FBR’s Year Book 2018-19, the total revenue includes the component of Advance Tax with returns and advance payments, where the total tax revenue stood at PKR 384 billion, while the revenue generated in FY2017-18 was PKR 374 billion.
As per the official figures, the total number of tax filers recorded in TY2018 stood at 2.2 million. The FBR will share the latest statistics for TY2019 on total number of tax filers after the deadline expires this month.
