Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday stated that the first phase of its single portal launch for filing sales tax would cover the national economy’s most-documented sectors, a news source reported. These include the ‘most organised and compliant’ sectors such as banking, insurance, and telecom.

FBR officials said that the pilot phase of the sales tax portal would determine the effectiveness of the system. A joint meeting of FBR and all provincial revenue authorities discussed the common portal/single return and other tax-oriented issues. Representatives of the provincial bodies expressed their willingness to cooperate with FBR for running the pilot phase of the project.
The said portal will facilitate the taxpayers by allowing them to upload data on a single platform. The portal will then prepare the return based on the data provided and forward it to the relevant jurisdiction. The amount deposited will be credited to the respective jurisdiction.

To use the portal, the taxpayers will centrally register with the FBR indicating relevant jurisdictions and receive a unique identified based on NTN/CNIC. Jurisdictions would not be able to view each other’s data except where authorised.
