Lahore: The Punjab Environment Protection Department has announced that no industrial unit would be allowed to operate in the province without a valid Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) registration, a news source reported on August 27.

The decision was taken in the Smog Committee’s review meeting, chaired by Punjab Environment Minister Bao Rizwan. Reportedly, the minister for industry also attended the meeting. The meeting members also agreed that these units will also obtain all the necessary approvals from the departments concerned prior to starting, resuming or continuing with their business operations.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Smog Committee and agreed that the required tasks will be finalised prior to the start of the smog season’s first spell this year. The officials representing the departments concerned informed the ministers that the respective tasks assigned to them are being taken care of.

Moreover, the meeting also decided that the Bank of Punjab will provide soft loans to the kiln owners in order to facilitate their conversion to zigzag technology.
