Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Monday (November 29) announced the countrywide registration of 22 million individuals and businesses to broaden the tax net in the country, news sources reported. The campaign starting in December will bring an estimated 22 million people under the tax net through mass media campaigns, issuance of notices and registration drives.

As per the details, it was revealed in a meeting chaired by Adviser on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin that the data of potential tax defaulters and potential taxpayers has been compiled with the collaborative efforts of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the FBR. NADRA has supplied information on 15 million potential taxpayers, while FBR has collected data on 7.2 million people. The registration of such people will enhance tax income and extend the country’s tax base.

In this respect, adviser Tarin stated that the strategy will be executed in stages, beginning with the issuance of notifications to 100,000 to 300,000 persons monthly, followed by the enforcement of notices to guarantee compliance. It was also stated that the data generated by NADRA and FBR will be made available to taxpayers on the FBR website.
