Lahore: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Thursday announced that it had prepared a databank offering ‘360-degree view’ of taxpayers, a news source reported. To this effect, officials revealed that that the board had captured data sources like banks, real estate transactions, and vehicles.

Elaborating on the taxpayers databank, the officials highlighted that FBR had already obtained data from power distribution and gas companies in the country as part of its efforts aimed at broadening the tax base. They added that the board collected data of more than 3.5 million industrial and commercial consumers and dispatched informal letters to them for registration.

The FBR officials said that the board was using the data obtained from power and gas companies to identify industrial and commercial consumers who were not registered for sales tax payments. They added that the board was focused on making reforms and introducing special initiatives for establishing fairness and equity in taxation. They highlighted that such steps reduce the burden of high taxes, improve tax enforcement, and encourage efficient and responsive tax administration.
