Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched a crackdown against the use of fake invoices to evade taxes, a news source reported on August 19. FBR Chairman Javed Ghani has issued instructions to various FBR field offices to expedite the operations against this practice.

The Karachi Field Office also took action against a business unit evading taxes and duties as well as issuing fake invoices which were being used by the buyers to claim input adjustments and refunds. The unit has cost the national exchequer nearly PKR 210 million in losses.

Moreover, the FBR also found another case with PKR 105 million in tax evasion, also through fake and flying invoices. In a related report, the board has also urged public to come forward and reveal the identity of FBR’s officials involved in private practice of taxation laws which the contravenes Civil Service Act.
