Lahore: In a bid to increase the number of tax filers, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has sent tax notices to 543 non-filers who own a property measuring 1-kanal or above in Lahore, a news source reported.

The notice instructs these non-filers to share details on their source of income with which they purchased the said property. The recipients have to reply to the notice within 15 days of receiving it. Sources within the FBR confirm that those failing to share the required details, within the given time period, will face legal action.

At the same time, the FBR’s Regional Tax Office-2 in Lahore has issued sales tax registration notices to thousands of businesses using commercial and industrial electricity and gas connections.
Furthermore, the regional office has also acquired employee data of banks, educational institutes, and hospitals. The tax officers will scrutinize this data to make separate lists of filers and non-filers.
