Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has successfully integrated 8,949 large retailers into its Point of Sales (POS) system, as reported on July 18.

According to the FBR’s compiled list up to July 2024, a total of 8,949 Tier-I retailers are now registered with the POS system. This includes 644 restaurants and 506 leather and textile retailers. However, the FBR’s Biannual Performance Report for July-December 2023-24 presents a different set of data regarding POS system integration. The report reveals that by December 2023, only 434 retailers had been integrated with the POS system. The breakdown is as follows: 234 retailers in Punjab, 99 in the Federal Capital Territory, 81 in Sindh, 16 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and 4 in Balochistan.

Additionally, the FBR has imposed a fee of PKR 1 on each receipt, and according to the FBR chairman, this has resulted in the collection of over PKR 1 billion. During the PTI tenure, the FBR conducted several computerised ballots to award prizes to those submitting POS receipts and educated the public on the importance of obtaining FBR barcode receipts from retailers.
