Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the date for filing income tax returns till December 15, news sources reported on December 1.

The decision was announced by Minister of Finance Ishaq Dar. He said that the government is taking every step to facilitate taxpayers, and they should get this opportunity to contribute their share in supporting the country’s economy. He was of the opinion that tax collection in the current fiscal year will reach its target of PKR 7.4 trillion. Following the announcement of the deadline extension, FBR issued a statement under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 confirming the development.

It is worth noting that this is the third time the FBR has extended the income tax deadline. The initial deadline of October 31 was extended till November. The government has set a tax target of PKR 7.4 trillion for the current fiscal year, which is higher than the PKR 6.8 trillion set last year.
