Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced an extension for the submission of Sales Tax and Federal Excise Returns for the tax periods of March and February 2025. The new deadline for both periods has been set for April 25, 2025, providing businesses additional time to complete their filings.
Originally, the Sales Tax and Federal Excise Returns for March 2025 were due by April 18, 2025. However, with the extension, taxpayers now have until April 25 to submit their returns, provided that the sales tax liabilities are paid by the original due date of April 18. This extension also applies to the returns for February 2025, which were originally due on March 18, 2025, and had already been extended once to April 13. The new deadline for February returns is now also April 25, 2025, under the same condition regarding the payment of outstanding liabilities.

The FBR issued detailed instructions to Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue, Large Taxpayers Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayers Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) to facilitate the extended filing process.
This extension comes under the powers vested in the FBR by section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005, enabling the tax authority to grant such time adjustments to taxpayers.
The move aims to provide relief to businesses and taxpayers, ensuring that they can meet their obligations without penalties for the delay, as long as the tax dues are paid by the original deadlines.
Tax experts and businesses alike have welcomed this extension, highlighting the ongoing challenges of timely tax filing in the face of complex regulations and administrative procedures. The extension is expected to help ease the compliance burden for many taxpayers across the country.
