Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns to October 31. This extension was granted following requests from trade organizations and tax bar associations, and it takes into account recent bank holidays.

The decision, made under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001, provides taxpayers with extra time to file their returns, aiming to ease the process and ensure compliance amid ongoing operational challenges. Last month, the FBR introduced a series of measures aimed at improving tax compliance and broadening the tax base by eliminating the non-filer category. These measures include restrictions on purchasing property, buying vehicles, investing in mutual funds, opening current accounts, and engaging in international travel, except for religious purposes.
Earlier, the deadline for filing returns for the fiscal year 2024 had been extended from September 30 to October 14.
