Karachi: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has divided Karachi into two zones with an aim to broaden its tax base, a news source reported. To facilitate this measure, the board recently demarcated the city into zones and designated two of its income tax commissioners for collecting their tax dues.

As per reports, for carrying out the task in Inland Revenue’s tax base, 13 areas have been added to the circle identified for Regional Tax Officer (RTO)-2. These include Saddar Town, DHA, Cant, Clifton, Layari Town, Keamari, Liaqatabad Town, Jamshaidabad Town, Manora Cant, Keamari Cant, Manora, Orangi, and SITE Baldia.
The 13 areas notified for the circle of RTO-3 are: Gadap Town, Bin Qasim, Malir Town, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulberg Town, New Karachi Town, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, New Nazimabad, Korangi Town, Landhi Town, Faisal Town, and Shah Faisal Town.

Previously, the revenue collection assignment for the entire city had been managed by a single income tax commissioner. The decision to divide the city into two zones would facilitate the officials concerned, since the tax collection process has become a daunting task following Karachi’s expansion.
