Islamabad: Adviser to the Prime Minister (PM) on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh has directed the tax officials to refine the stipulations of the proposed tax amnesty scheme within two days, a news source reported.

He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday. Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, Adviser on Institutional Reforms and Austerity Dr Ishrat Hussain, Minister of State for Revenue Muhammad Hammad Azhar, and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Dr Jehanzeb Khan were all present at the occasion.
The session’s agenda pertained to tax rates and the duration of the asset declaration scheme. The finance adviser stressed the need to make the scheme more attractive and persuasive. He directed the FBR officials to devise an effective communications strategy to this effect.

Dr Sheikh is expected to discuss the scope and timeframe of the scheme with officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), after gaining approval from the prime minister. The international delegation will reportedly arrive in Islamabad by the month’s end.
