Islamabad: Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has issued directions to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) policy board to broaden the tax net using the data available with the board without burdening the existing taxpayers, a news source reported on October 23.

Dr Shaikh was chairing a meeting of the FBR Policy Board. The meeting also discussed the matter of data-sharing between FBR and NADRA. The meeting also discussed proposed terms of reference on the matter by Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar and former FBR chairman Abdullah Yousaf.

To this effect, he stated that other issues relating to tax collection and trade management should be resolved on an immediate basis. He further said that a proposal should be prepared for liaison between the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and FBR so that the data could be used on taxation matters. Moreover, he directed the officials concerned to fine tune proposals for preparing the terms of reference under the supervision of Special Assistant to PM (SAPM) on Revenue Dr Waqar Masood Khan.
