Karachi: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to revisit the pending cases of tax defaulters, a news source reported. FBR Chairman Shabbar Zaidi recently issued the directives to this effect.

Reportedly, the decision has been taken to reduce the FBR’s shortfall in terms of its set tax-collection target. As per sources, the FBR chairman has instructed the Revenue Operation members to assess all of pending cases registered against tax defaulters under the Income Tax Ordinance article 122 5A.

Under this assessment, the board will be review cases of tax defaulters who have defaulted on paying their due taxes for the last several years. The officials concerned will also review the cases registered against people who didn’t pay their taxes or paid less than their levied dues.

Sources claim that the abovementioned people have lost their right to appeal against the FBR’s prerogative to investigate their cases. Furthermore, the board will also reopen cases against people who have miss-declared their income and assets details.
