According to the details, sources within the FBR have revealed an ambitious plan to bring a million individuals into the tax net during the initial phase. Subsequently, concerted efforts will be made to expand this reach to 1.5 million people by the year 2024, with a long-term goal of encompassing 6.5 million taxpayers by June 30, 2024.
The campaign against non-filers will involve the issuance of notices as well as the implementation of stringent administrative and legal measures to ensure compliance with tax laws. In line with this initiative, Caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwar ul Haq Kakar has given approval for these measures, signalling a commitment to strengthening the tax base.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, FBR officials note that only 350,000 people filed tax returns in the current fiscal year. This underscores the imperative for the proposed measures to bring about a substantial increase in the number of taxpayers, contributing to the overall economic stability and growth of the country.
