Islamabad: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi urged citizens on Wednesday to file their income tax returns for tax year 2018 and benefit from the board’s August 2 deadline extension, a news source reported.

He reiterated that anyone who owns a property in the country larger than 500 sq yd or a vehicle over 1,000cc is legally bound to file tax returns. He added that the last date for filing tax returns for the year 2018 has been extended till August 2 – making the time interval in between an excellent opportunity for people who still need to document their returns.
In June, Zaidi had stated that the FBR was working on a long-term strategy for expanding the tax net in the country. He also underlined the need for building the confidence of the business community in order to facilitate Pakistan’s economic recovery.

Furthermore, the chairman had admitted that the tax recovery in the country was still not up to the mark – being in dire need of improvement.
