Karachi: FBR Chairman Syed Shabbar Zaidi has announced his commitment to introduce long-term taxation reforms in a bid to facilitate the general public, a news source reported.

The chairman expressed his views on the matter during a meeting with industrialists and businessmen at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce (KCCI) on Saturday.
He informed the attendees that the revenue board would not conduct any unnecessary audits of taxpayers. He added that the government was contemplating to provide duty relief on some raw materials in the upcoming federal budget.
Moreover, the FBR chairman said that he would announce the number of shops and companies operating within the country. At present, there are 700,000 industrial units functioning in Punjab alone, he added.

He stated that he was unaware about the number of industrial units operating within Sindh, or the number of those that paid tax. He informed that only about 1.9 million people in the country pay their taxes (according to the latest reports).
