Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has updated its baggage rule, restricting outgoing passenger cash-carrying limits to USD 5,000 for domestic passengers and USD 30,000 for international passengers, news sources reported on November 17.

The new regulations will take effect in January 2023 and were announced in SRO2043(I)/2022. According to the specifics, to limit the country’s existing currency, the FBR modified the Baggage Rules, 2006, allowing domestic travellers over the age of 18 to carry only USD 5,000 every time they board flights, and foreign passengers to carry only USD 30,000 annually. Similarly, travellers under the age of 18 will be limited to USD 2,500 or the equivalent in other currencies, with an annual cap of USD 15,000.

Cash limit for Afghanistan
The FBR has specifically limited USD outflows to Afghanistan to USD 1000 per person every trip, with an annual cap of USD 6,000.
Moreover, people arriving at any international airport in Pakistan must disclose money worth USD 10,000 or more on the declaration form outlined in Appendix C.
