Islamabad: The Institutional Reforms Body (IRB) has allowed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to use automated data-integration technology to identify new taxpayers across the country, according to a news report.

Dr Ishrat Hussain, who heads the IRB, announced this decision. He further stated that the IRB is considering keeping tax machineries within the government’s domain. Hussain revealed that the Ministry of Law will consult the body to ensure that the FBR officials’ privileges remain intact.
The government has decided to grant the FBR autonomy in the execution of its operations, along the lines of the State Bank of Pakistan, he added. Furthermore, he said that the authorities concerned had instructed the authority to carry out its reforms in phases.

To this effect, the taxation body will implement the first phase in the upcoming budget. Meanwhile, it would assure effective implementation in this time period. Accordingly. this phase will involve automated data-integration technology.
