Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has asked late taxpayers to pay ATL surcharge in order to become part of the Active Taxpayers List (ATL), according to news sources. It prefaced the statement by saying that it did not include 509,000 late filers in the said ATL as these individuals did not file their income tax returns within both the communicated timeframe and the extension issued.

‘The amount of ATL surcharge for companies is Rs20,000; Association of Persons Rs10,000; while ATL surcharge for individuals is Rs1,000,’ the taxation agency said in a statement. ‘The board has encouraged such taxpayers to pay respective amount of ATL surcharge and take benefits of ATL,’ it added.
It is pertinent to mention that the FBR had uploaded the Active Taxpayers List 2020 to its website on March 1. It further stated that as many as 2.62 million individuals had filed their income tax returns till February 28, 2021.

It is pertinent to mention that active taxpayers are entitled to various benefits such as exemption from withholding tax on different financial transactions and low tax rates on vehicle/property purchases.
