The news source revealed that the expiry date for the ATL is February 28. The FBR officials (whose names were not disclosed) stated that the taxpayers who have failed to file an income tax return for 2022 will not benefit from reduced rates of withholding tax effective from March 1. It was shared that the board will issue a new ATL on March 1, based on income tax returns filed till February 28 for the tax year 2022.
As per the details, the FBR has 4.2 million active taxpayers as of February 20. It is pertinent to note that ATL is a central record of online Income Tax Return filers for the previous tax year. The officials stated that the ATL is published every year on March 1, and is valid up to the last day of February of the next year.

To be part of ATL, the individual must file tax returns for the previous year. And if the individual fails to file a tax return by the specified due date, they will not be a part of ATL that year, as per the Finance Act 2018. However, this was amended in the Finance Act 2019. An individual’s name can be a part of the list even after a tax return is filed after the due date by paying a surcharge.
