Islamabad: A joint session of parliament has been called on August 6 to pass the laws needed to meet the requirements of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) — a news source reported on August 3. President Arif Alvi has also summoned a legislative session today for passing a resolution on Kashmir — with Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan also expected to be present at the occasion.

The government has called the upcoming joint session in order to pass nearly seven bills that will change certain local laws in accordance with FATF requirements. The state has already passed a number of bills in the lower house of parliament; however, the deadline to introduce and pass the laws is drawing near, which is why the government has now decided to act quickly.

Reportedly, Pakistan has to meet 27-point requirements if the country wants its name removed from the FATF grey list. The requirements need to be met before the FATF plenary meeting next month.
