Islamabad: The top civil and military authorities endorsed the merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunwa (KPK), according to a news source. The relevant ministries and organisations were instructed to take steps in this regard. After a five-hour meeting of the National Security Council (NSC), a declaration was issued, which stated that the committee was in favour of the KPK-FATA merger, and the administrative and judicial structures and laws of KPK would be introduced to FATA.
This meeting was presided over by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbassi, and was attended by the top civil and military leaders, including the chairman joint chiefs of staff committee, service chiefs, and federal ministers. This was the second in a series of NSC meetings this week. According to the declaration, the NSC directed the ministries to work out all the constitutional, legal, and administrative aspects of this merger on a priority basis.
