Islamabad: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh on Monday stated that the government’s recently unveiled PKR 50 billion package for the agricultural sector would be most beneficial for the country’s farmers and crop growers — a news source reported.

Dr Shaikh made these comments while chairing a meeting with a delegation of the Farmers Associates Pakistan. During the session, he welcomed the recommendations and proposals presented by the delegation, including plans to reduce the electricity tariff for tube wells, reduce the import duty on fertilisers, reduce the rates for agricultural loans, and improve the procedures for imports and exports.

He said that any proposal to further improve the criteria under which the relief package’s amount is disbursed will also be welcome. He also acknowledged the role of agriculture in generating employment, boosting growth, and alleviating property following the end to the coronavirus pandemic.
